Kaikala Satyanarayana (July 25, 1935 – December 23, 2022) was an Indian actor, producer, director and politician who worked primarily in Telugu cinema. He appeared in over 750 films and served as an MP for the 11th Lok Sabha representing the Machilipatnam constituency of the Telugu Desam party. He is the recipient of the 2011 Raghupathi Venkaiah Award and the 2017 Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in Telugu Cinema.
Kaikala Satyanarayana was born on July 25, 1935 to Kaikala Laxmi Narayana of Kavutaram village in Krishna district. After completing his primary education in Gudlavalleru and his intermediate education in Vijayawada, Satyanarayana graduated from Gudivada College.
Kaikala was first noticed by D. L. Narayana, who offered him a role in his film Sipayi Koothuru directed by Changayya in 1959. Although it did not do well at the box office, he was noted for his likeness with N.T. Rama Rao. They found him as a potential candidate to play NTR’s dupe. Satyanarayana suited this place perfectly. He played NTR’s dupe in several films. NTR offered Satyanarayana a role in its 1960 film Apoorva Sahasra Siraccheda Chintamani, directed by SD Lal. Satyanarayana played the role of a prince.
B. Vittalacharya cast him in a negative role in Kanaka Durga Pooja Mahima. He adapted the role to the T. From then on, Satyanarayana established himself in villain roles. Satyanarayana established the production house Rama Films and made films such as Kodama Simham (1990), Bangaru Kutumbam (1994) and Muddula Mogudu (1997). He went on to appear in over 750 films.
Kaikala married Nageswaramma on April 10, 1960. The couple have two daughters and two sons.
Kaikala died on December 23 at his home in Hyderabad. The 87-year-old actor had been struggling with several health issues for several months.
