Vicky Kauvshal (born 16 May 1988) is an Indian actor known for his work in Hindi films. Kaushal has received numerous accolades, including a National Film Award and two Filmfare Awards, and appeared in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list in 2019.
After earning an engineering degree from the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, he began his film career by assisting Anurag Kashyap in the 2012 crime drama Gangs of Wasseypur and went on to play minor roles in two of Kashyap’s productions. His first starring role was in the 2015 drama Masaan, after which he starred in the psychological thriller Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016). Kaushal gained further recognition in 2018 with supporting roles in Raazi and Sanju, two of the year’s highest-grossing Hindi films, winning the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the latter.
A starring role as a military officer in the 2019 war film Uri: The Surgical Strike made Kaushal a top performer and won him the National Film Award for Best Actor. He received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Udham Singh in the biopic Sardar Udham (2021), winning the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor. In addition to his acting career, Kaushal endorses multiple brands and products, and has co-hosted and performed at award shows. He is married to actress Katrina Kaif.
In addition to his acting career, Kaushal has hosted and starred in numerous TV award shows including Filmfare, Zee Cine and Screen Awards. He also performed in the grand final of Femina Miss India 2019. He is a famous spokesperson for several brands and products including Havells, Reliance Trends and Oppo, charging ₹20 million (USD 250,000) to 30 million ₹ (380,000 USD) per year per brand. Kaushal is also the Pearson brand ambassador in India.
